What are DNA Groups and what is their purpose?
If Neighborhood Groups are the ‘Dining Room Table’ of ministry, DNA Groups are the ‘Living Room’. NG’s give each member of Refuge the opportunity and privilege to partner with other believers to corporately grow in community, to utilize their gifts on mission, radiating the glory of Christ to our friends, family, neighbors, and city. While NG’s greatly tend to our need to be connected to the Body of Christ in a meaningful way, DNA Groups provide a greater intimacy in which we can pursue pointed growth alongside trustworthy friends and mentors. In DNA’s, we share our greatest struggles, deepest hurts, and pursue a greater vision for our relationship with Jesus.
4 Values of DNA Groups
In DNA Groups, we hold to following four values. With 2-3 people of the same gender you will do the following:
Pursue holiness together: It is the goal of DNA to encourage each other to regular practice of Christian disciplines: prayer, bible reading, meditation, solitude, fasting, confession of sin, and accountability (Hebrews 12:14).
- Encourage life in Community: Members of DNA groups should be practicing the NT “one another’s” in community (Refer to Discover Refuge Packet). Regular attendance at DNA groups is required. Other church communities include Neighborhood Groups and Equip Classes. DNA Group members are encouraged to regularly attend these as well within reason of availability (1 Corinthians 12:27).
- Gospel Centrality: The foundation of the conversation within DNA group is the gospel. We are to point each other back to Jesus sacrifice, resurrection, and finished work. The goal of DNA group is not to pursue greater morality, or to pull ourselves up by our bootstraps. God has called us to pursue holiness while reminding each other of our true state and the necessity of relying on the sanctifying work of the Holy Spirit. (1 Timothy 2:5-6)
- Multiplication: Each quarter we will evaluate how our DNA is doing. After 9 months or a year we will consider whether we should split up in order to multiply. We will assess whether we have all grown in the categories above and are able to lead others in growing in those areas also. (Matthew 28:18-20).
